Anglo Saxon remains have been found to the north of Station Road and Barrington Road. Precisely where the Anglo Saxons lived in the vicinity remains to be discovered, but as they didn't leave much in the way of easily detectable archaeology this might never be resolved.
The church could be a clue in that the substantial font is described as Saxon, but there is nothing to say that it is in it's original location.
